There is only one time of year I really dislike: Halloween.
I don’t understand why some Christians embrace this wicked day. Just think about it for a minute. What is there to celebrate? What are you celebrating? Why, and who, are you celebrating?
God tells us what and how to think, to keep our minds pure. Philippians 4:8 (KJV): Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
According to God’s word, if we are to think about honest, lovely, true, pure, and good, why would any Christian want anything to do with Halloween?
Halloween is all about ghosts, goblins, monsters, and evil beings. These are the things Christians should be guarding against. There is nothing about Halloween that glorifies the Lord; it does not Edify God, and it does not celebrate God’s gifts, or brings Him Glory. Halloween goes against everything God stands for.
So the question is, why do some Christians participate in it? Further yet, why do they let their children revel in it? What’s the harm in letting kids dress up and go door to door for candy? I see two things wrong right away.
1. You are teaching your children it’s okay to pretend, just for one night, to be evil. If it’s not for the glory of God, then it’s sin or evil. Either you walk in the light or you walk in darkness.
2. With all the pranks and unstable people in the world, are you really trusting that the treats they get are safe for them to eat?
I appreciate that many of the churches in our area have trunk-or-treats in church lots. Children can still get candy and treats that are safe, and they are being taught to honor and give glory to God, not celebrate Satan.
If there is one reoccurring lesson I have learned over the past couple of years, through the trials I’ve been through. If you give Satan just a wee little crack, he will take advantage of it to get you away from God. It’s like boiling a frog. If you put a frog in hot water, right away he will try to get out. But if you put a frog in cold water and slowly heat it up, before the frog realizes what’s happening, he’s already cooked. Satan works the same way. He knows we will object to obvious wrong, but if he slowly introduces it, little by little, before you know what’s happening, you have already turned away from God.
This is why I make a big deal about Halloween. It may seem harmless now, but it is one little step that will eventually take your eyes off God.
There is no doubt about it: Halloween is about evil, and Christians need to guard against evil.
I don’t expect everyone to agree with my view. So the question you should be asking is, if what you are doing is not edifying or giving glory to God, why are you doing it?
