HELICOPTER RIDE

There was an elderly couple who went to their local fair every year. As they would walk around they would always walk by a pilot who gave helicopter rides. The old man stopped and ask the pilot how much does it cost for the helicopter ride. The pilot said $50.00. The old man turned to his wife and said, “what do you think?” The old mans wife replied, “there is better ways to spend our money. $50.00 is $50.00.

This went on for several more years. Every year they would pass this helicopter ride and every year the old mans wife would say, ” $50.00 is $50.00.”

The older couple now in their 80s again visited the fair, again walked by the helicopter ride. The old man stopped and said to his wife, “you know we may not get another chance to do this” Again the wife said ” 50 bucks is 50 bucks.”

Now the pilot hearing the conversation spoke up. “I’ve watch you two for years walk by, so I am going to give you a deal. I’ll give you a ride in my helicopter for free under one condition. If you both don’t say a word from the time we leave the ground to the time we get back on the ground, your helicopter ride will be free”.

The old couple talk for a few minutes and then agree to get on the helicopter.

The pilot takes off. He does many different tricks trying to scare the old couple wanting to make them say anything. When he lands the helicopter he says, “I did everything I knew how to do to make you say something.” The pilot turns around and saw the old mans wife was gone. ” where did your wife go?” The old man replied, “oh she fell out after that big first turn you did.” The pilot turned white and said, “why didn’t you say something?” The old man replied, “50 bucks is 50 bucks”

This is a sad joke, but the point I am trying to make is. “Don’t wait or try rationalize it. Just do it”

God opens doors for us to walk through. Yet we are so scared that it might be to hard, scared of the unknown, we try to rationalize it or just simply don’t want to step out of our comfort zone.

When we don’t take that step of faith and walk through the door, we miss many great blessings God wants to give us. God only keeps that door open for a short time and then closes it. Many times in my life the door has closed on me and I looked for a window not realizing I didn’t take that step of faith and walk through the door when I had a chance.

God will open other doors for us. Are we willing to take the step through it or walk by it?

God will always give us what we need to acomplished any task he asks us to. Do we have enough faith to trust God? The task will seem way out of our expertise, way out of our comfort zone to big for us to handle. That is the point. If it where easy, we wouldn’t need God.

Trusting God is doing the things we think that are impossible, which they are by ourselves. If we are willing to walk through that door and fully depend on God to help and clear the way. The impossible task is now possible.

The lesson here is to learn and trust God. When that door opens, we need not be scared of walking through it  but to realize, God will be right there leading the way.

We just need to have the faith and take the steps to walk through the door. We won’t know the blessings if we keep trying to find a window because we waited to long and the door was closed.

This is one of the hardest things for me to do, to step through that door. I want to analyze every possible outcome before making that decision, but God says to trust him and not your own understanding.

In my walk with Christ, this is one of my biggest struggles. I have failed many, many times but God is faithful and quick to forgive. He will keep on teaching me to step out as long as I am willing to let Him.

When that door opens, don’t worry what’s on the other side. God will give us what we need. He always has and always will.
