THUNDERSTORMS

Sitting on my porch and just enjoying the sounds of nature when my phone sounds out a siren. When I hear that sound, I know severe weather of some sort is nearby.

I can feel a temperature difference across my bare arms and smell of that sweet scent just before it rains.

Picking up my 3 year old phone I quickly silence the alarm and hastely click on the my favorite weather app to find out just what Mother Nature’s gift is going to be for this afternoon.

Looking at the app, I find it covered with greens and yellows with lightning bolts just a few inches from the blue dot of my location.

The thunder roars in the distance and the wind turns from a light breeze to an almost overpowering gust.

I love thunderstorms, the sounds the smells, the way the clouds form. Thunderstorms are just one of the many ways God shows me of His wonderful creation.

Thunderstorms also remind me of an old hymn. It happens to be my favorite hymn.

The words go like this:  When peace like a river atendeth my way, When sorrows like sea billows roll. Whatever my lot, He has taught me to say, It is well with my soul.

The hymn is known as It is well with my soul. There is a wonderful but tragic story behind this hymn which at maybe a latter time I will write about, but for now I will just  say. That in everyone’s life, Thunderstorms will occur from time to time.

When they happen, we need not be afraid of them or run and hide. Thunderstorms that roll into our lifes, doesn’t always mean we had done something wrong and God is correcting us. These are times for learning, times for strengthing our Faith and stretching our resolve. Yes, sometimes to correct us when we need correction like any loving Father would do.

Nature thunderstorms, clean the air we breathe, water flowers and fields and can wash away dust and dirt.

Thunderstorms, natures cleanser.
