Today, I walked by a trophy case. It was filled with beautiful tall and small shiny trophies. Some were of 1st place, some runner-up and even a few that said State Champions!
What a sight to see, all those accomplishments within the last 10 years. I am sure that this school was very proud of those trophies and all the hard work those student athletes put in to get them. Then I wondered, who will remember these student athletes in all they did 20, 30, 40 years from now. Will these trophies still be there after 20 years, will they still be shiny, will anybody really care?
That is the way worldly possessions are. You work hard to get them, then once their in your possession we might use them for a while, or we break them or after a time they become worthless and we throw them away. We can’t take them with us when we leave this earth, so what is it that drives us sometimes into debt to get them? There is a bumper sticker that I use to see from time to time that read, “The man with the most toys, wins” Hum, is that all that life means to you?
I can tell you, without a shadow of a doubt, that there is more to life than who has the most toys. Winning in this life is losing it. You can have the best of everything money can buy and if that’s all you have, you don’t have anything.
If you really want to be a winner in life, then you have to lose your life, to gain it. In the Bible, a man called Nicodemus had everything he wanted and ask Jesus what he had to do to follow Him. Jesus answered him saying, “You must be born again to enter the Kingdom of Heaven” The story goes on in John 3.
What we need to realize about the crazy world is, that the world is only temporary and we are only here for a short time. Life is not about who has the most toys, the biggest house, making the most money or even how well-known you are. To know what life is really about, you must lose it and be born again to become a child of God. This is the only way you can escape eternal death. God loves us enough and showed his Grace, by sending His son to this earth who then was crucified and died on the cross with the world sins on his shoulders. All we have to do to receive this Grace, is bow our heads and bend our knees and ask to be forgiven and believe in Faith by confessing that Jesus is Lord and Savior of all. That’s it, one small short simple prayer and you will have life that will never end. You will be born again. This is the gift of God I write about so often. This is what gives me purpose to go on even though, things look bad. This is why, when I lost my job I can say, there is something out there better for me that God wants to use me for. This is why, I have joy that passes all understanding and I can say “Thank you Lord for taking me out of the job I was in.”
Until you have experienced the Salvation given to us by God, you will never know real peace, real joy that is there waiting for you. Jesus said, “I Am the way, the Truth and the Life, no man comes unto the Father but by me”. John 14:6
It’s your choice. You can have the most toys, or you can have everlasting life.
