Today, I would like to write to all of you who are jobless and looking for work. Right now I am jobless too so I am speaking from the heart and now experience.
Job searching, I almost hate those 2 words now. I haven’t had to do it for over 30 years. Up until now, every job I had was offered to me without even to have to look for it. I had been one of those very fortunate people whose jobs came to me through other people or friends I knew. This time it is different. I have never been forced to quit or resign before Monday, so this in itself was new to me. It was like a hard slap in the face then a punch in the gut and if that wasn’t enough, I felt like I got stabbed repeatedly in the back. I should have seen it coming. I saw the warning flags pop out a few times but had dismissed them due to just an over excited imagination. Looking back, I should have been already looking or at least putting in apps for jobs. Even if I had to turn them down, at least they would have been out there.
The biggest mistake that people make when they lose their job is come home and wallow in self-pity. Blame their employer for being unfair, or unjust or trying to put blame somewhere that will make you feel better about your self. The hard reality to face is, YOU ARE NOT BLAMELESS EITHER! Let me write that again, YOU ARE NOT BLAMELESS EITHER, Somewhere back in your work history, whether it be recent or past you did something that you were not supposed to and you knew better. It is a hard pill to swallow sometimes but until you buck up and face it, you will carry that baggage with you to your next interview or job. Take a close look at yourself and think back on where you made the mistake and fix it or own up to it. If you face it or deal with it, the apps are easier to fill out. If you fill out an app or go to an interview still bitter about your last job, it will show up in the interview or job app, I know this by experience. I was once a service manager and had to hire my own staff. You can tell in a short few minutes of an interview if that person is bitter or not just by their reactions to your questions.
Another mistake is, not making your job search a full-time job. If you are really serious in finding a job, you have to tell yourself, I have to work full-time, finding a full-time job. Again, I am telling you this by experience. I used to work 3rd shift until Monday morning. After being forced to resign, I came home, took an hour or so to do a gut check and then got busy making up a resume, cover letter and started going on-line and filling out apps. Most places today, now do 90% of their recruitment and provide apps online. I stayed busy all day searching and filling out apps even though the last time I saw my bed was 3:00 pm the day before.
Today I can tell you, I have already received a call and have an interview set up for Friday. It doesn’t mean I will get the job, or that I will stop filling out apps. What it means is, the work you put in, will prove itself later. It always does and always will. An athlete doesn’t get to be the best by doing nothing. They train hard, the better ones train harder because they know, if they want to be the best it takes hard work and dedication. So is finding a job.
I do have to apologize for Monday’s blog. After re reading it again today, I found myself a little confused of what I was trying to say. The message did get across though, as my sweet niece wrote a nice message about the post and read exactly what I was trying to say. Which reminds me at this time to say. If you really want some great insight and uplifting thoughts, I encourage you to check out my Niece’s blog. Her words and thoughts are very well put together and her personality just bubbles out when you read them. Her blog is tondalalonde@wordpress.org. The Lord has blessed her richly, giving her the gifted writings.
So, if you are out of work, I am truly sorry and know the struggles you may be facing. We have to stay focused at working full-time to find a full-time job. We also need to stay focused on Christ. Prayer is just as important in finding a job. We need to be asking Christ to give us discernment on which jobs to take, we need to ask for humbleness, and realize that you are part of the blame of losing the job. Pray for peace and love, so that it will wipe out any bitterness you may have. Pray of Joy, get ready, because God is going to do something wonderful in your life, beyond your wildest dreams. Pray for forgiveness, I need it everyday, you need it everyday. God will be faithful and he will forgive, but we have got to ask. Ask these things in God’s name, and they will be given to you.
