My Best Friend

We all have friendships with people from work, church, family, and clubs, to name a few, but having a best friend is different. You may have more than one best friend, but I would venture to say you probably only have one, two at most.

Dont get a best friend and close friend confused. A close friend is not the same as a best friend. A close friend may know much about you, but a best friend knows you in a much deeper way.

A best friend is one who knows what makes you happy, knows how to cheer you up when you’re down, knows all of your quirks, is always there for you at any time, and doesn’t care what time it is. They will tell you what you’re doing right and will also tell you when you’re wrong. A best friend cares about your feelings but is also truthful even though it may hurt. A best friend will share deep personal secrets with you without the fear of anyone else ever finding out.

A true best friend is the most difficult friendship to form, simply because it takes a lot of time and effort on both parties to form one. Becoming best friends didn’t happen overnight, and it didn’t happen without disagreements and compromises.

I don’t think anyone knows just when the “best” friendship begins, but one day both of you realize there is not another person that you would trust the most but that “best” friend.

I believe the reason why most people only have one best friend (other than their spouse) is that it takes so much effort and so much time to develop. Even with the time it takes, both people have to have the right personalities that work with each other.

Having a best friend, once you have one, usually lasts a lifetime, and generally, you won’t ever find another one.

Because we know how hard it is to find that best friend, we take extra care of that friendship. We protect it, nurture it, and groom it.

When you become a Christian, Christ not only becomes your Heavenly Father, but He also wants to be your best friend. It won’t happen overnight; it will take time and effort on your part. We will need to nurture it, groom it, and protect it.

By reading the Bible and devotionals and spending time in prayer, you start to understand who Christ is. The more you begin to understand Christ, you start to learn to trust more. You start learning to let go of every situation, and let Christ control it. We arm ourselfs against evil and fight for our friendship. We become sensitive to what the Holy spirit is telling us, so we may effectively live in testimony for Christ.

Ephesians 6:11-13 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

What can be better than having a best friend who is the most powerful, who created everything in the universe and has unconditional love just for you? Yet millions of people reject Christ and reject His friendship.

Having a true best friend is hard to obtain. Having a best friend in Christ takes a simple confession of sin, an acknowledgment that Christ is above all creation, and accepting that in faith.

Christ is your best friend forever.

May God’s peace always abide in you.
