Soul Mates Forever

Today, two of our young friends are joining together in marriage. Watching them this past year, their reactions, interactions and conversations and their love of God, it is clear to see they are soul mates. What exactly is a soul mate? I will share that with you in a bit. This would be a good time for me to tell you how I met my soul mate.

When I first met my wife, my best friend, my soul mate Rose twenty years ago, God did a miraculous miracle. We would have never found each other on our own and we were both in another relationship at the time. Looking back at our beginnings when we first met, Rose had invited her friend and her friend’s boy friend (me)over for dinner with her family.   That evening we all had a good time, not even imagining what would expire five years later. To keep this short, it was four years later when our two church’s softball teams combined together for a practice. We literally ran into each other in the outfield chasing down a fly ball. One more year had past before I saw her again at a restaurant where she was working. At this point in time, the Lord had taught me to be happy being single,  and I really was enjoying it. God however, knew my needs much more than I did. Rose’s side of the story is, her co-workers said she about through her self over the restaurant counter waiting for me to ask her out but shy little me never did. I did stop in a few more  times just to see Rose, and had a thought have asking her out for dinner, but again,  shy little me never had enough courage to do so. It was six months later, while I  was at  work when out of the blue, there stood Rose, just being hired for a job. Things rapidly, (I mean really fast) grew from there. Because the company was starting a cross training program for the position Rose took, she was required to ride with an experience person. (at that time it was me) We talked about many things all morning. Noon came and she brought her own lunch with her and offered me half of a meatloaf sandwich she had cooked the night before. (I rarely ever ate lunch) but being the sensitive guy I am, I didn’t want to hurt her feelings and ate the portion she gave me. Her meatloaf was the most amazing food I have ever tasted and in the middle of telling her how good it was, I got bold (yes, shy little me) and snuck in the words “I think I am in love with you” in a middle of the sentence. Needless to say, we got married five months later.

Rose does a much better job telling how we met. After all, I am a average guy who likes to stick with facts and I leave out much of  the details. God through only his perfect plan put Rose and myself together to become as husband and wife. It was only through God’s timing that this could have ever happen with all the obstacles in the way that would have prevented us from ever meeting up again especially, over the years and months that took place.  God is in control of everything, the sky, seas and everything that exists, whether we acknowledge him as our Creator or not.

So what is a soul mate? A soul mate will always fill the needs of their mate first, before ever thinking about themselves. A soul mate will protect their mate, even to death. A soul mate will be quick to forgive and not keep record of any wrongs. A soul mate will give themselves to only their mate and no one else. A soul mate will honor and cherish until death. Soul mates will laugh and cry together. Soul mates will let nothing get in their way of their love for each other.

God loves us also in this way and so much more the we can ever comprehend. He has already shown this by offering his only Son for our sins to give us eternal life and to defeat death. Christ has given us the example of what a soul mate should be, but it is our choice to follow His example.
