SLOW DOWN

I consider myself as a fast paced busy person. I’ve been told by many “no moss grows under your feet does it”. I laugh at that comment but when I stop and think about it, I realize there is more truth in that comment than I would like to admit.

Being fast paced is not a bad thing however, being fast and busy all the time you end up missing or you over look things other people see.

Some of the reasons on why I have became a fast paced person would be, most of work experience over the years have been jobs where quickness counts. I worked in a few factories where I was on a piece rate. Another was an RV company where you only had a short window to do your picticular job. I also worked for a vending company with a set route paid on commission. So the quicker you got the route done, meant more home time.

I have worked now for 18 years in a school system as a custodian. I would of thought that this kind of work would slow me down. It has a little, but I always found myself with a couple of hours at the end of my shift trying to find something to do to keep busy.

Over the past 8 years, I have had quite a bit of small annoying medical problems. None that is to serious but enough to slow a person down. In 2016 I was diagnosed with Ulceritive Coloitis. It was a mild case but since then it has spread further in my colon to where the doctor has labeled me to moderately severe. I take drugs to help keep it under control but it has diffenitely slowed me down. I’m home now for about 6 weeks on medical leave to recover from a joint replacement. Once again, I have no choice but to slow down to give my body time to heal.

These intermitent times that have slowed me down have given me a chance to reflect on where I’ve been and a chance to plan on where I want to go.

What I have learned or being taught about slowing down is patience. Let’s just say, that patience is not my strongest personality trait.

Sometimes being fast or pushing hard is good but if you don’t ever slow down, you miss some of God’s blessings along the way.

When accidents or events happen to us we right away question “why me”? Sometimes we even blame God, wondering why He would let this happen.

Our God is an awesome God. He knows what we need before we do. God always has a purpose and is always in control. We shouldn’t be focused on why, but rather have faith that through the situation God is working his perfect plan. It could be a time of instruction or testing for us, it might be through our reaction that could bring someone into the family of God. Whatever it is, good will always come from any situation we find ourselves in.

Faith is for me anyway, the hardest thing to learn. Faith is believing without seeing. Knowing good is going to come out of a bad situation eventhough, you may never see it.  Faith is the hardest concept to understand but faith is what is required to accept Christ.

I heard a sermon a while back that has always stuck with me. “Faith plus nothing” is all you need to accept Christ. Faith plus nothing. Faith is believing eventhough you can’t see it, touch it or smell it. Faith that God exsits. Faith that God is in control. Faith that some day, Christ will return and lead us to heaven. Faith that calling on Jesus’s name, you will be saved.

Christ accepts me for who I am. All I need to do is believe that God is above all and have FAITH and God will save my soul to have eternal life with Him.

I am being slowed down and learning to be more patient. I have Faith that God is in full control.

Many times I find it hard and difficult to understand and to be patient, having faith to give God control, but I know through it all I will emerge with stronger faith and a stronger person.
