Do you believe things happen by chance? Maybe what ever does happens in your life, good or bad you chalk it up as fate. I believe in neither chance or fate, because there is a reason a plan for everything that happens whether it be good or bad.
Earlier this week, I received a note at work asking me to set up an appointment to talk with a representative from the universities human resources department. After calling and setting the appointment I went. (I will call the person I talked to as “Sandy” since I didn’t ask permission to use her real name) Sandy and I sat down and talked about what someone thought they heard of the night in question. The complaint was, they thought they heard someone use a derogatory word about their race and since I was there it might have been me. Thinking back to that very cold and frigid 12 hour night shift, I honestly don’t remember much of what was said. Saying that, I do know my heart and I know that such a statement could not have passed my lips, no matter how tired or frustrated I might have been. So, is it chance or fate that put me in situation that later called me to talk with Sandy? IT WAS NEITHER.
You see, to believe in chance or fate you have to ignore that there is a God or a Higher Power. You would have to believe in the “luck of the draw” or “that’s just the way it happens because it’s your fate”. Chance is something that might happen or it might not. Fate is the end result of chance, because we can’t find any other way to explain it.
For those who believe in the One True King, chance and fate are non-existent. There is not a chance when God is not in control and because God is in control, fate can’t happen because God has given us his promise, our eternity. We who have taken the gift from God, in which He freely gave us, death is defeated and we will spend our eternity with God. That is God’s promise, the security that gives us Hope not fate.
Good things happen to all people, as much as bad things happen to all people. Like it or not, that is just the plain cold hard facts about life. Being called to talk to Sandy was very uncomfortable for me. I don’t like trying to defend myself on matters that I don’t remember doing or not. What Sandy was telling me, hit me in the blind side and it hurt to hear the mere mention that someone might have heard me say a derogatory, disgraceful, disgusting racial remark.
The truth of the matter is. It was not fate nor was it chance, but for whatever reason it was for, I know God was in total control. I prayed before I went, prayed while I was waiting and prayed as I was walking in. God was teaching me through the whole conversation with Sandy and is still teaching me now as I write in this blog. Many different outcomes could have happened this morning, but the right one happened because God controls everything.
One of the lessons that is becoming clearer and clearer from this morning is, I am realizing that my testimony at work is not as strong as I thought. In fact, I need to take a hard look at myself and ask God to show me, where and what areas am I lacking in my testimony to my work-mates. It is very apparent, that they don’t quite see me in the light they should. Otherwise, they would have known, no word or words like that would or could have ever been spoken by me.
It is not by chance or fate that I find myself here on earth. It is my Creator, my Heavenly Father’s will that I am here to run the good race, to declare in the corner of my world, that God gave up us own Son to die for my sins and then Raised Him up from the Dead to give me the gift of Eternal Life.
Chance or Fate? not me,
I TAKE GOD
