Wow, how time flies, didn’t even realize it has been over 6 months since the last time I wrote. Many things have changed in my day to day life as I am sure yours have too.
Since my last post, my Father-in-law has moved in with my wife and I. We were in the middle of getting government funding to keep him in the assisted living facility, but through prayer and discernment we felt God was leading us in a different direction. After moving him in with us, we quickly noticed how malnourished he was and sleeping more than normal man his age should. A week went by as I watch my wonderful caretaker of a wife took amazing close care of making sure he received the right kinds of food to eat, giving him much needed attention and making sure his needs were met. I watched an amazing transformation as this feeble 70+ year old man came back to life. Even though his memory is fading and telling the same few jokes over and over again and forgetting the punch line, still deaf in one ear and hard of hearing in the other, walking with a walker and taking small stutter steps, this once feeble man who was sleeping all the time is now up most of the day. He is now eating 3 meals in the same 24 hours, color is back in his face and after a good meal he says, “My only regret is, that I have only one stomach to give to this great meal”. If you know Ed, you are smiling right now.
Many times some Christians for what ever reason, start fading and become feeble in their walk with the Lord. It might be because the storms they went through, instead of seeking God for help, they tried it by themselves. Maybe it was because they lost a very close family member or friend and blamed God. Could it be life got to busy to spend just even 15 minutes a day in the Bible? or even pray? There are so many more reasons why followers of Christ start fading away from the truths they once held on so tight too. So what is the answer to keep from falling away and becoming feeble and weak? There are 2 major things I believe we stop doing. First, we need not to be so busy that we don’t make the time to read God’s Word. God’s Word is the road map, our guide through this life that we live. It is filled with nothing but truth, encouragement, wisdom, discernment, guidance, hope and the way we ought to live. Second, we have got to keep in touch with our Heavenly Father through prayer. “Pray without ceasing” says Paul in 1 Thessalonians 5:17 meaning, always keep God in your fore thoughts not after thoughts. Prayer changes things. Taking time to humble yourself, “just you and God alone, no interruptions, no cell phones, tv, etc.” I have always had trouble staying focused in my prayer time until my pastor mentioned that I should pray out loud to myself like God was standing right there in front of me. It works!
We need to be good caretakers of our Faith! Daily devotions, daily prayer time is the right medicine to get our eyes focused back on the truth and on the right path for a wonderful journey with our Savior.
