Practice With Purpose

I was practicing music for an upcoming concert set for this coming Monday evening. Practicing any part is actually harder than playing with the rest of the band. The reason for this is, while practicing on your own, you hear only your part. Most times it sounds empty, wierd, sometimes you play parts of the melody but most of the time is just does’nt make much sense. When you are playing your part with the rest of the band however, your part fits in perfectly. You can hear your part with the other parts, the melody starts coming through, and the music becomes alive.
When I was at camp last week, someone asked me why we needed to go to church, when they can have church at home. The purpose of “church” is not only for worshiping our Lord and Savior together with other believers, but it is also a time to share with others what God is doing in each of our lives.
Being with other brother’s and sister’s in Christ is a very important part of being a Christian. We need to be around other believers to help us grow. They give us words of encouragement, to share moments of joy, to share answers of prayers, share our heartaches with. God didn’t set up the family by mistake. He already knew we needed the camaraderie of other believers (brothers and sisters in Christ) for help and support. Yes, God wants us to practice on our own, (private bible study, prayertime) but also wants us to worship Him with other brother’s and sister’s to share the good and our trails with, but most important, to give Glory to God together.
Make your walk with the Lord come alive by practicing by yourself, but also going to church and being a part of it, to get the full benefits of being a child of our One True King.
